SMPlayer 14.9 available for Ubuntu

A new version of SMPlayer, 14.9, is available for Ubuntu. There are packages for Ubuntu 12.04 (precise), 14.04 (trusty) and 14.10 (utopic) in our PPA.

This is a maintenance release. This version provides a new fix for Youtube playback. We also improved the option to search for subtitles. There’s a new feature, requested by many users: now it’s possible to shut down the computer after playback.

Notice however that now the themes and skins use a new format. Now instead of installing hundreds of png files, the images are packaged in resource files. That means that you need to update the packages smplayer-themes and smplayer-skins as well.

To update, just enter these commands in a terminal:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install smplayer smtube smplayer-themes smplayer-skins

Packages for Windows will be available soon.
